About

Who is the Sacred Stork?

My name is Kristin Martinez, Bcd Bce Bpe,  and I am a certified doula serving Rathdrum, CDA, and surrounding northern ID areas.  I have been a doula since February, 2019.

I offer personalized prenatal, birthing, and postnatal support. My goal is to give you and your family the focused attention, support, and knowledge you need to make informed decisions about your pregnancy and labor process.  I have supported first births, VBAC births, and births of those who have birthed before.  With experience supporting VBAC births, I am able to bring my specialized knowledge to your birth.

I am a sign language doula.  I am fluent in ASL (American Sign Language) and have worked as an ASL Interpreter for over 10 years, so if you or someone on your birth team uses ASL to communicate, I may be the right fit for you!

Benefits of Having a Doula

What is a doula and why should I hire one?

A doula is a trained professional who provides physical and, emotional support during pregnancy, birth, and into the postpartum period to birthing people and their partners. She provides information so that you can achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.

Check out all the cool things doulas do!

9% drop in use of pain medications

If you are hoping to avoid pain medications, a doula offers a myriad of comfort measures!

28% fewer cesareans

Increased breastfeeding

A doula, especially a postpartum doula, can result in higher success when breastfeeding.

31% less use of pitocin

The key to labor is that happy, happy hormone, oxytocin! Pitocin is the artificial version of this naturally occuring hormone, and if labor isn't progressing, it's great! However, there are SO MANY ways to get that happy lovey hormone flowing naturally, and your doula knows A LOT!

Shorter Labor

On average, a doula reduces your labor by 40 minutes!

12% increase in spontaneous vaginal births

Spontaneous! Without any sort of intervention at all! Because your body was made for birth.

34% fewer negative birth expreiences

A doula helps you through your choices through labor and helps you process your birth experience once you are home. Even if your birth doesn't go exactly as you had planned, your doula will remind you that you made the right choices for you and your baby, allowing you to have peace with your birth.

Kristin was our doula for our baby girl who arrived 6/4. Although technically a student doula at the time of our delivery, we couldn't have asked for anyone more wonderful. She was warm, caring, and attentive. Especially during these Corona ruled times, it was great to have someone so supportive. I also appreciated Kristin's knowledge and experience, and she was always candid about where her knowledge was limited which I greatly respect. During the chaos of labor, I will endearingly remember calling her, panicked, at 2AM, and she picked the phone up as calmly as could be. She was always able to say the right things at the right time during labor (or maintaining a calm silence as needed), and even captured some wonderful photos for us so we could be in the moment. Kristin also processed my placenta encapsulation, and she was able to turn that around the next day making the whole process extremely easy. Her follow-up post-partum as continued to be just as warm and open, showing how much she cares for her clients and newborn clients!

We were so blessed to have Kristin as our Doula! She has a great personality and very encouraging. During the birth she was by my side most of the time & so helpful in the first stage & transitional labor as the midwives left us alone for most of it. She kept notes during with facts of my birth & gave me a sweet booklet after with all those notes; we cherish it. During the birth she did what I asked for & what I needed. She had a calming, casual energy and when appropriate- made jokes with my husband to help keep him calm too. She was so encouraging, let me squeeze her hand to death and held my sick bag when I threw up. Anything I needed she got it for me. She went & got us food after, took photos for us & provided great emotional and physical support throughout the whole process. She also provides Placenta Encapsulation services & got to me within 48 hours after the birth and she did a great job, I’ve felt the difference when I do or don’t take the pills. Overall, she went above & beyond; are so grateful for her kind spirit & how she enhanced our birth experience. Would definitely recommend her to anyone who asked!

We are so thankful that Kristin was our birth doula for our 2nd baby. My birth story would not have been the same without her. She brought so much, joy, knowledge and peace through pregnancy and my birth experience. Kristin joined me when I was around 30 weeks pregnant. I interviewed a couple doula's but knew right away she would be our perfect doula. She came to my appointments and kept in contact with me always making sure all was going well. She was so quick at responding to any questions I had no matter what time of day it was. Once labor started she was in contact with my husband. Labor was quick for me so we ended up meeting her at the birthing center. She quickly assisted with my back labor pains the moment she saw me in the parking lot. Kristin knew how to make my labor experience very special. She also assisted my husband with ways of helping me, which I loved. We were blessed to have her on our team and I can't wait to tell my baby girl all about it. You would truly be blessed as well to have such a wonderful birth doula who absolutely loves her work and has a true passion for Mamas, pregnancy and labor.
